Building the next generation of skilled trades workers starts with women

“Sometimes it takes just one woman to inspire a generation of girls to pursue success in a career they’d never imagined.

When Emma Basmayor was in high school, shop classes had been phased out of the curriculum entirely. The idea of working in the skilled trades hadn’t occurred to her as a career choice. But before she graduated, a chance encounter planted the seed of a dream that would take years to become reality.

Basmayor’s story is a modern-day Rosie the Riveter call to action. While Rosie beckoned women to work in male-dominated industries during World War II, Basmayor is rallying the next generation of women working in skilled trades industries.”
