THE WEEK OF THE STATE GROUPS! Just one week ago, I let y’all know that I was “spinning off” an Oklahoma Group so that the Oklahoma-specific inquiries wouldn’t distract from the larger discussion that could/should be had on the Original GIRL ATTORNEY FB Group page. One week, and over 700 people later the GIRL ATTORNEY – OK FB Group is more than just Ok, it’s doing fine! (hahahahahaha – sorry, couldn’t resist) AND THEN…….I had several unsolicited inquiries about other states from gals interested in having a GIRL ATTORNEY FB Group that would even offered to serve their state as a co-admin with me.

AND….about THAT TEXAS GROUP. They say things are bigger in TX – and well, what can I say except that they are certainly living up to their reputation! The GIRL ATTORNEY – TX page went live on Wednesday morning with THREE members (me, Sally the designer, and Kelly Tompkins the co-admin). AND NOW the GIRL ATTORNEY – TX FB Group has OVER 1,100 MEMBERS. So, you know, that’s a pretty big percentage of growth. Because I am not math’s BFF, I turned to the interwebs to help me “calculate” this difference. The interwebs advised that the percentage of growth from 3 t0 1179 members was a 39,200% increase. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA – That’s crazy awesome!
Also, btw, we have new States being added this weekend (probably Sunday, August 14): FLORIDA and MASSACHUSETTS are coming – again, because of awesome volunteers!

WELCOME to the New GIRL ATTORNEY FB Group MEMBERS: Thank you to those of you who introduced yourselves this week. Also, for those of you who have yet to do so – Do it, do it……it’ll make you feel good! (Anyone remember that old don’t-do-drugs commercial from the 80’s where they use that line?) haha
GIRL ATTORNEY PODCAST is COMING: While I had absolutely NOT anticipated the growth in the Original GIRL ATTORNEY FB Group (let alone the State Groups), I have been planning for some time to produce a GIRL ATTORNEY Podcast. I will be interviewing women with law degrees (litigators, business people, stay-at-home moms, politicians, artists, etc…etc…). Of course, I will interview members of our Group(s). But, also, I hope to also have the opportunity to interview women attorneys of influence whom we’ve all heard about – but quite possibly simply have not had the opportunity to hear FROM about their work from a more personal perspective. No matter the path an interviewee has taken, each person’s path has potential to teach each of us more about ourselves and how we might impact our community as attorneys. If you have a connection to someone well-known, or if you have someone you are aware of whose story needs to be told – please PM me! I am hoping to launch by September (and I actually think I can/will)! I am sooooo freaking excited about this. Seriously. Also, last but not least on the Podcast topic: I have a short list of entities (CLIO, Fastcase, Blue Apron, etc…) that I am reaching out to about podcast sponsorships. Do you know anyone at any of these places that might be a good contact to discuss this with? Other ideas for sponsors that would likely relate well to our Group as a whole? If so, again, please PM me!
GIRL ATTORNEY – EVENTS: #GAgettogether Thank you to last week’s hosts: Sarah Stewart Maldonado – [Estate Planning] Lunch OKC, OK; Eileen McCombs – Lunch/Arlington (DFW), TX; Kathleen Pence – Happy Hour Tulsa, OK! PLEASE REMEMBER (do what I say, not what I do) to take and post pictures and use the hashtag #GAgettogether when you post. It makes it SOOOO easy to find all those pics super-fast in the Feed that way!
At this time, there are no planned events for next week, but I know of a few that are in the works (OKC, Houston, Colorado Springs…). Also, fyi – if you do want to host an event through one of the pages (please use your State page, if your State has its own page), please create an Event (see top of the Group page…far right is where the “Events” are/where you can create one) so that your event can be easily found/joined. The Events function allows you to add an image – so, just send me a pic you want to use for your event for us to put the logo onto it (OR, feel free to just ask me for one to use.
NEW MEMBERSHIP GUIDELINES: I added some “guts” to the Group Description this week. So, it’s got all the same stuff it had before – but…..a bit more on the guidelines for posting – this is what’s new:
“Please consider NOT REPOSTING stories/links to other sites. Please consider, instead, POSTING your own unique thoughts about the topics of interest to you! Of course – there is so much great content “out there” – but, too much of that content linked into the Group (oh, and memes, too) can really SPAM up the GIRL ATTORNEY FB feed. If you do decide to repost, then please identify the subject, share some thoughts in the Post itself, and then put the link into the first comment. Viola! You get your content on the Feed, and the Feed is not spamified at all. Yes, that is a word. Okay, no it’s not – but you know what I’m saying!
Also, please resist the temptation to share the product you sell, the product your friend sells, your request for donations to VERY GOOD causes, etc… Thing is – virtually everyone in the Group is involved in a great cause – or two, or fifty-five. You know it’s true. So, please feel free to educate us about your involvement in different great causes, and offer to follow up with folks who want to know more. But, well, I’m hoping to make this as close to an ask-free zone as possible.”
WEBSITE COMING: The website that is being developed as a companion to this Group page is coming along NICELY! If you are interested in getting involved in providing some original content through the girl attorney website, shoot me a PM on that! I’d love to facilitate as many of you contributing Original content as are interested.
Notification SETTINGS a “Heads Up”! Are you getting to many or too few updates from the Original, or your State Group? Heads up: You can CHANGE your notifications settings: FROM THE COMPUTER – Find the “Notifications” tab in the bottom right corner of the Group “Cover Photo” and choose which level you want. FROM YOUR PHONE – Find/start with the “Info” tab from just below the cover photo, far right hand side. Click through, select “Notifications” and choose what level you want!
